The Gran Turismo series has been there since 18 years; in that time, they have made a total of 10 releases with Gran Turismo 6 being the latest of them. So how many copies do you think the series would have sold so far?
Polyphony Digital, the game developers behind the series have the answer on their official website. The developers recently decided to revamp the design of their website to give it a much sleeker look and while doing so, they also updated sales statistics for all the racing simulation titles they have made in the series.
According to the table that they have provided, the ten releases have collectively sold 76.5 million copies! Here’s what Polyphony Digital is saying:
With sales totaling 76.49 million copies worldwide, Gran Tursimo has become an international sensation, with strong followings in Europe and North America in particular. It burst onto the video game scene in 1997, steadily evolving alongside the PlayStation console, and continues to promote the enjoyment of driving to people of all ages all over the world.
Their most recent release, Gran Turismo 6, came out on December 6 and ever since then, it has sold 4.7 million copies. Interestingly, this is one of the low selling titles on the list ahead of only a few. Here’s the entire list:
- Gran Turismo – 10,850,000
- Gran Turismo 2 – 9,370,000
- Gran Turismo 3 A-spec – 14,890,000
- Gran Turismo Concept Series – 1,560,000
- Gran Turismo 4 “Prologue” – 1,400,000
- Gran Turismo 4 – 11,760,000
- Gran Turismo 5 “Prologue” – 5,350,000
- Gran Turismo PSP – 4,660,000
- Gran Turismo 5 – 11,940,000
- Gran Turismo 6 – 4,710,000
As you can see in the list, Gran Turismo 3 A-spec has sold the maximum number of copies, reiterating that it was the most popular game in the series followed by Gran Turismo 5.
After Gran Turismo 6, the developers are now working on Gran Turismo Sport which is slated for release next year. The game is not going to be a direct entry into the main, numbered series though.
