We expected this to happen but maybe not so fast. God of War is now the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive title meaning that it might actually become the best-selling title on the console. According to Sony, God of War topped more than 3.1 million units sold globally in the first three days (April 20–22).
Undeniably, God of War is one of Sony’s biggest success with not only huge sales numbers but also incredible review rates, giving it a 10 out of 10 on a big number of gaming sites. The developers have also managed to reimagine Kratos in the eyes of the fans, giving him a more compassionate character and generally, feelings. With all these under consideration, PlayStation Blog has posted today the news of God of War being the fastest-selling title on PlayStation 4 along with a heartfelt message from studio head Shannon Studstill:
“I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play. I’d also like to thank our Creative Director, Cory Barlog, and Director of Product Development, Yumi Yang and our entire amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The belief in the game’s vision and the passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable. We look forward to hearing more about how fans are creating new memories of their favorite God of War gameplay moments that will be remembered for a long time.”
God of War, as mentioned above, has a high chance of becoming the best-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive title. For now, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End holds that title with 8.7 million units sold, followed by Horizon Zero Dawn with 7.6 million units. God of War has 3.1 million sold in just three days so imagine what its future might hold.
In related news, Cory Barlog, God of War director, revealed that he has 5 more titles for God of War “mapped out in his head”. The first part of the new saga took 5 years to finish, however, Barlog is optimistic that it won’t take 25 years to see the end of the series.
