Gears Of War 4 is set to launch in less than a week and Microsoft has geared up its efforts to keep the hype up for the game.
While all the Gears Of War mainline games are third person shooters, it seems that players might see a Gears Of War game in a different genre.
Appearing at the Xbox Fanfest event in Sydney, Australia, Xbox boss Phil Spencer and The Coalition creative director Chuck Osieja were asked that “If Gears of War could expand into any other gaming genre, what would it be?”

However, before Osieja could answer, Spencer immediately stated that he would have to be very careful with what he says. Somehow this statement gives me a vibe that a Gears Of War game for a different genre is in development.
Osieja said in a played up voice that Microsoft explores all opportunities for its franchises, and when the opportunity presents they will bring a Gears Of War game for a different genre.
At Microsoft, we evaluate all opportunities for our franchises. So, if the right opportunity presents itself, we’ll explore that as something we can offer our fans.
Spencer added that Gears Of War franchise’s story can be told across different gaming genres, as Gears Of War is a very big IP for the company.
Definitely when we got the team together and talked about the future of gears of war, I think there’s multiple ways that you can tell that story. Multiple gameplay genres. I think it’s a really big IP and it’s an IP that could exist in linear form, in books–we’ve seen that; in different gaming genres.
As Gears Of War 4 has gone gold, The Coalition has been revealing new details about the game. Recently, the developer released a new gameplay video showcasing Gears of War 4 multiplayer Guardian mode.
Gears Of War 4 will be dropping on October 11, 2016, for PC and Xbox One.
