Valve head Gabe Newell is known to stay in touch with the gaming community, he usually replies to worthwhile questions via email to let us know what he thinks of a certain matter.
One of the most talked about topics of recent times is cross platform/network play. Microsoft proposed the idea to Sony, saying that the company is taking steps to ensure that cross platform play is possible between Xbox, PC, and other consoles (PS4).
Sony also supported the idea and said that it has been doing cross platform play for a long time between PC and PlayStation platforms. The company said it is open to discuss Xbox Live and PSN working together to bring the community closer.
Now, GabeN has shared his thoughts about cross platform/network play. When asked by a fan, he replied by saying that Valve is all in for cross network play.
This means that three of the biggest players in the gaming market – Sony, Microsoft, Valve – are ready to work together. If things move forward smoothly, we may see a revolution in the gaming community and how we play games. Playing games like The Division, Co-Op for Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty with gamers from other networks would be a dream come true for many of us.
It will also help bring the toxicity level down a notch and we may see players discussing games and skill levels rather than which platform is better to play on.
Of course, this may take some time but at least the companies are talking about it. Speaking of companies, I wonder where Nintendo stands on this? They don’t have a proper gaming network so if they do introduce one with NX, bringing on Nintendo wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Where do you stand on cross platform play? And GabeN supports cross platform play, what do you think it? Should it be done?
