Game director Hajime Tabata has already stated that a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XV is very unlikely and would like to expand the game with expansions and in-game events. Now Final Fantasy XV director has revealed that if Square Enix asks him, he would work on Final Fantasy VI but would rather work on something new.
Speaking with GameRevolution, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata was asked if he would like to work on Final Fantasy VI to which he replied that he would work on the next entry in the franchise if Square Enix asks him to do but, he would like to create something new with a “clean slate”.
If the company came to me and said “This is your next important mission,” I would do it and I’d put my all into it. But what I want to do and what my team wants to do is create something new, and that’s what we’re going to do.
From doing Final Fantasy XV, we got so much experience and know-how, we really want to be using it to make something with a clean slate. From the company’s perspective, it’s come together that I think they want us to do that.
However, he added that he has already started to work on his next project but, didn’t share any details about his project.
Also, Hajime Tabata has praised the upcoming Xbox One X saying that the console is very attractive for developers. However, despite its technical capabilities Final Fantasy XV will not be native 4K on the console.
Also, Square Enix has announced that the game will be getting more content next year which is hardly surprising since the studio has no plans for a direct sequel but intends to support the game with new content.
Final Fantasy XV is an open-world action adventure title developed by Square Enix for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and will come to PC in early 2018.
