As we already know, Ellie and Joel are back together for another adventure. The plot of the game will follow their journey for revenge and vengeance. According to ND, Ellie has “seen some shit” and is ready to kick some butt. In the reveal trailer, Ellie swore to find and kill all of them (whoever they are) and Joel is by her side.
Neil Druckmann said:
If the first game was really about the love between these two characters, this story is the counter of that. This is story is about hate, through Ellie this time. The first game you play as Joel, this game you play as Ellie.” He very safely concludes, “that’s all I’m going to say at this time.
The story of The Last of Us is co-written by one of the writers working on Wasteland. Neil Druckmann will also be involved in the story which means we are in for an intense and emotionally jolting ride.
The Last Us 2 is in very early stages of development, Sony mentioned during PlayStation Experience. The game shouldn’t be expected before 2018. Next year at E3, Sony may show more footage and reveal the release window for the game.
