It looks like Denuvo is in big trouble this year. Not only did some major titles that were using the Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM got cracked within their first days of release but now reports say that Warner Bros games like Injustice 2, Shadow of War and Mad Max are unplayable due to Denuvo server issues.
Fans are posting all over Steam forums, Reddit and ResetERA that for a few days now they cannot boot their Warner Bros games, or managed to connect after many unsuccessful attempts. This is happening due to Denuvo server issues that are causing the games not being accepted as legitimate copies. This problem currently involved games like Mad Max, Shadow of War, Batman: Arkham Knight and Injustice 2.
This authenticity check is not happening every time you try to boot the game but once every couple weeks meaning that even if your game is working now it could eventually cause problems in patch downloading and overall booting.
This kind of problems is the basic problem for all PC gamers. At any time, Denuvo could stop supporting its servers and all the games using the Anti-Tamper DRM will be deemed unplayable. This theory could even become even wider if the Steam servers stop working one day. Imagine this huge amount of games that will be basically non-existent if anything like that happened.
Many publishers have already started removing the Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM and even refusing to use it since this service is bit pricey and doesn’t ensure that their games won’t get cracked. In reality, all publishers should completely remove the service once the game gets cracked even though many of them still refuse to do this.
Thankfully, the last version of Denuvo is currently not cracked so we may see a positive change of things when the Denuvo server issues blow over. Let’s hope that this is only temporary and will be fixed soon.
