DELL has quietly launched new Inspiron 17 5000 Laptops with AMD Ryzen CPU and onboard VEGA graphics. DELL has launched four new models and these laptops feature Ryzen 5 and 3 CPUs.
These are first DELL laptops to feature Ryzen 5 2500U with Vega 8 graphics chips and Ryzen 3 2200U with Vega 3 graphics chips. Each processor has two models and in terms of specs each of them features 17.3” anti-glare LED-backlit display, two USB 3.1 ports, one USB 2.0 port, and HDMI 1.4b interface.
The difference between these Inspiron 17 5000 Laptops comes in memory and storage configurations. The Ryzen 3 model comes with 8GB DDR4-2400 RAM and 1TB HDD, and the second model for this processor features 12GB of DDR 4 RAM and 1 TB HDD.
As for the Ryzen 5 models, they both feature 16GB DDR4-2400 RAM and 2TB of HDD. These laptops are already available and start from $679.99. However, none of the laptops feature SSD drive which seems strange.
These will be one of the few Laptops from DELL to feature AMD processors as DELL has noted that there won’t be many DELL powered machines from them. According to Dell, the reason why there is no large amount of AMD Powered Machines from the company itself is that Intel’s processor portfolio is massive compared to AMD.
Intel is the big player, AMD is the second player. There’s enough diversity between them that there are use cases to have them both in our portfolio, but just the sheer breadth of the Intel processor portfolio is massive compared to even the accelerated AMD world.
Speaking of AMD, the company has announced EPYC 3000 and Ryzen V1000 Embedded Processors to “enter a new age for high-performance embedded processors”.
EPYC 3000 is powered by the “Zen” architecture and is targeted towards “networking, storage and edge computing” devices while Ryzen V1000 has different use cases.
