There are no official confirmations from the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red but there are rumors of CD Red to go under a hostile takeover.
These rumors circulated in the air when the general meeting of shareholders was held in the CD Projekt Red’s headquarter on 29th November. Along with other issues, the main agenda points of the meeting discussion, as they were posted on Neogaf, were:
1. Vote on whether or not to allow the company to buy back part of its own shares for 250 million PLN ($64 million)
2. Vote on whether to merge CD Projekt Brands (fully owned subsidiary that holds trademarks to the Witcher and Cyberpunk games) into the holding company
3. Vote on the change of the company’s statute.
The three points that were main discussion issue in the meeting give a little bit of hint that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red may undergo a hostile takeover.
The second prominent discussion issue in the meeting was to get the opinion of the shareholders about the merger of CD Projekt Brands.
All the decisions are on the table for the shareholders to pick anyone according to their own benefits and interest. Most probably, the speculation is that CD Projekt Red is in the middle of a hostile takeover.
The company wants to protect the interests of the shareholders even in the case of the hostile takeover as published in an interesting draft by CD Projekt Red. The company has a keen desire to strengthen the position of its shareholders until they opportunely want to waive their shares.
CD Projekt Red has already started to work on their next big project, CyberPunk 2077 which demands a lot more developers.
So far these are all the speculations. Let’s see the future has in store for us. Stay tuned.
