It was leaked by a reputed source a couple of days ago that the Call of Duty 2016 is going to be set in a very far future with space combat. Now, there are hints that they might actually bring us realistic explosions as well as destruction set in space.
The official website of Activision has a job opening for a visual effects artist saying that “Infinity Ward is looking for a Temporary Visual Effects Artist responsible for creating visual effects for our next title.” Needless to say, they are talking about the next Call of Duty game.
In the details they have provided for the job opening, Activision says that the artist will be creating “realistic explosions, demolition [and] destruction,” for the title in question.
Relating the two things is pretty exciting since this could mean we are not only going to get space combat but that the space combat in Call of Duty 2016 is also going to be rich in realism in terms of destruction and explosions.
I for one would love to see the series build a little on those two fronts.
However, do keep in mind that the space combat related news is yet to be confirmed by Infinity Ward itself, just like almost everything else about the game.
Previously, it has been rumored that the game engine being used for the next Call of Duty is going to have better memory optimizations and texture pipelines. Also, it has been rumored that the game could actually be Modern Warfare 4 because another rumor has suggested that copies of the past MW titles are going to be given away as preorder bonus with Call of Duty 2016.
We will know more at E3 2016 when Sony presents the game.
