Bluepoint Games’ PS5 Project Will “Become The Achievement We’re Most Proud Of”

For those unaware, Bluepoint Games is currently working on something massive for the upcoming next-generation PlayStation 5 console. Based on strong speculations, the developer is remaking the critically acclaimed Demon’s Souls. Whatever that mysterious project comes out to be, Bluepoint Games wants to make it public now that the release will leave everyone in awe.

In a recent interview with SegmentNext, president Marco Thrush stated that until now, remastering Shadow of the Colossus (twice) was an incredible achievement of the studio. However, the project currently in the works for PlayStation 5 will easily replace Shadow of the Colossus as the greatest achievement ever in the books of Bluepoint Games.

We [Bluepoint Games] originally remastered Shadow of the Colossus for the PS3 and then remade it for the PS4. It’s the only one we’ve touched twice and to date it is our greatest achievement, so it’s easy to say that is our personal favorite. However, there’s no question in our minds that our current project will become the achievement we’re most proud of.

Thrush refrained from going into any details by noting that the studio will only start talking when Sony is ready to make an official announcement. For now, let it be known that the current undertaking for PlayStation 5 is probably the biggest challenge Bluepoint Games has faced in comparison to previous projects.

However, that’s not saying that the architectural design of PlayStation 5 is making development difficult. Thrush clarified that Bluepoint Games has been fortunate enough to invest in ways that make remastering or remaking games on PlayStation 5 “more powerful and efficient” in addition to adding flexibility.

Fortunately the Bluepoint Engine and toolset has been in development for many years. We have significantly invested in ways that allow our process of remastering or remaking games to be powerful and efficient. It is flexible and able to take advantage of any hardware.

Demon’s Souls is only one of the projects that Bluepoint Games is rumored to be working on. The same rumor mill also suggests that there might be another project in the pipelines. Bluepoint Games even fueled the fires by teasing multiple classics like Silent Hill, Resistance, Castlevania, Syphon Filter, and Legend of Dragoon last month. Suffice to say, the developer is handling some pretty big names for PlayStation 5.

Bluepoint Games has overhauled many classic games to date. The developer remastered Ico and Shadow of the Colossus for PlayStation 3, and for PlayStation 4 down the road. The same studio also remastered the Metal Gear Solid and Uncharted collections. Bluepoint Games, for those unaware, was involved in the development of Titanfall as well.

Thrush also noted that remasters and remakes are incredibly important. They help developers to understand hardware limitations and formulate new tools and methods that ultimately maximize the quality of new games. Hence, as far as Bluepoint Games is concerned, remasters and remakes are a good practice and greatly beneficial when it comes to working on new projects.

Following the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx last week, Bluepoint Games expressed a wish to remake the original Half-Life, something that millions of fans out there would be hoping for Valve to read.

Bluepoint Games certainly has a clean record when it comes to high-quality remasters and remakes. Unless Valve wants to go full virtual reality with Half-Life 3 as well.
