Bethesda Still Trying to Get ‘Some Kind’ of Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 Mod Support on PS4

According to Bethesda, the studio is still looking for ways to have Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition mod support on Playstation 4.

This follows Bethesda’s announcement from last week in which the studio confirmed that both Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition will not receive mod support because of Sony – these mods will work absolutely fine on Microsoft’s Xbox One.

Here is what Bethesda had to say about the entire issue:

After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition. Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive.

Following the announcement, fans explicitly expressed their displeasure across social media. One of the fans asked Bethesda’s VP Pete Hines about Playstation 4 allowing mod support to a much-lesser known game such as Farming Simulator 17, but not to Fallout/Skyrim – kind of putting the blame on Bethesda Softworks.

In response, Hines said that Farming Simulator 17 and Fallout/Skyrim are technically very different games in terms of scope/scale and there are a lot of things that come under ‘Mods’.

When asked about an explanation of what exactly is going on between Bethesda and Sony, Hines said that he did not want to dive into specifics as the studio was trying to get some kind of mod support on Playstation 4.

Since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 are confirmed to support mods on PC and Xbox One, here’s to hoping that something positive will come out of this.
