Microsoft and its Xbox brand have faced plenty of criticism in the past 4 years but the company wants you to “believe in Xbox.” According to Oscar Díaz and Daniel Hernandez of Xbox Spain, what’s coming is really exciting and fans should have faith in the company and Xbox.
He appealed to the Xbox community to keep believing in the brand as they are making efforts to improve their current situation. Over the past few years, the company has struggled to maintain a steady and quality stream of first and second party content.
Just to list a few things that went wrong:
- Cancellation of Scalebound
- Overhyping Mediocre Games (Quantum Break, ReCore, Halo 5, and more)
- Cancellation of Fable Legends
- Not Focusing on Developing First Party Studios
- Relying too Much on Exclusive Third Party Deals
- Lack of Focus on Games, More on Pushing Xbox as an Overall Entertainment Device
It took Microsoft a long time to realize that they lost the battle due to their focus on the wrong things. Meanwhile, Sony overtook the Redmond giant by focusing on gamers and games. Titles like Horizon Zero Dawn are now inspiring Microsoft to bring back Fable and focus on first-party content. In a recent statement, Phil Spencer acknowledged community concerns over Microsoft’s content strategy.
I’m not deaf to the meme out there regarding our content and our need to invest more. Definitely, we are at a point where we’re investing more and we’ll continue to do that.
Microsoft is working to on changes that we will see at E3 2018. There is a lot riding on the next event, where Microsoft is expected to blow the roof off with quality content that’s releasing in the near future.
The exclusives lineup for 2018 is looking good thanks to Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, PUBG Early Access, State of Decay, and more. Fans are itching for some new IPs to release as current series are suffering from franchise fatigue.
What other games would you like to see from Microsoft? Do want established IPs or new IPs from the company?
