The path leading to the highly anticipated premiere this weekend finally answered the one major question that everyone had been theorizing about — who lives and who dies in Avengers: Infinity War.
While some may be a bit disgruntled about the confirmation of death this early, it should be noted that the aspect was never a secret for the movie. It was always put out that some characters are going to perish at the hands of Thanos and his Black Order. It was, though, never clear as to what characters are going to end up in the obituary.
It goes without saying that what follows are major spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War. If you have been unable to take time out for a theatrical screening, it would be best to turn away and never look back.
Here are the characters that die in Avengers: Infinity War and by whose hands.
Heimdall
When the fleeing Asgardians are ambushed by Thanos and his Black Order, a defeated Heimdall tries to open the bifrost to help everyone escape. However, he is cut short with a spear to his heart by the Mad Titan himself.
Loki
After being forced to give up the Tesseract, Loki tries to shank Thanos by tricking him into letting his guard down. The unwise decision leads to him being choked to death in midair.
Gamora
In an unprecedented turn of events, the only way for Thanos to gain the Soul Stone is by sacrificing someone he loves dearly. This turns out to be his adoptive daughter, Gamora. She is thrown off the cliff by his own hands to her death below.
Vision
Vision actually dies two times. The first is when Scarlet Witch destroys the Mind Stone to stop Thanos from obtaining all of the Infinity Stones but the Mad Titan simply uses the Time Stone to turn back time and rip the Mind Stone off a resurrected Vision for his Infinity Gauntlet.
The Black Order
The children of Thanos bit off more than they could chew this time around. Ebony Maw gets thrown into deep space by Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Spider-Man; Corvus Glaive gets killed by Vision with his own spear, Proxima Midnight gets shoved into a giant grinder by Black Widow, and Cull Obsidian gets sent flying by Bruce Banner into the forcefield protecting Wakanda.
Half of the Universe
When Thanos completes his Infinity Gauntlet at the end, he is nearly taken out by a powered-up Thor. However, the Mad Titan is still able to finish what he started out doing. He snaps his fingers and half of all life in the universe simply disintegrates.
The characters that eventually turn into dust are the Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Groot, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Mantis, Drax, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, and Nick Fury.
