Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is taking a stronger RPG approach and one starts to wonder what kind of RPG elements will Ubisoft be introducing in this game. While features from Origins will come back, have they took any inspiration from games like The Witcher 3 or Skyrim?
When the director, Scott Phillips of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was asked about the RPG elements and he said that about three years back, he sat down with the Assassin’s Creed Origins studio to discuss the prospects of the series as a whole. The basic question was, “what direction should this series take and what does it need to evolve into?”
We talked with the Assassin’s Creed Origins team to see what they were doing. We both had the same sort of idea of where the series should go–RPG choice, we wanted to push it forward. We knew Origins was doing some of those things, but for us, we had the time to really go even further to focus on the two characters, Alexios and Kassandra, to focus on choice within the stories and within the dialogue, to give you special abilities, to build your own playstyle.
We know this much that the director has plans to make Odyssey bigger and better than all of its predecessor, How? Is the big question.
When he was asked about the games from which the studio took the RPG inspirations, he referred to The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and Fallout. He said that he has really enjoyed all of these games, in fact, he specifically added that Skyrim and Fallout are his favorites.
Philips specifically said, that what all of these games have in common is that they provide the players will a lot of options and that is what the studio finds captivating.
And if you look at those games, they give players a lot of options. For us, that was what we wanted to push Assassin’s Creed as a franchise into: more choice for the player.
Keeping what the director of the game has said, it seems like this time their prime focus is to bring deeper RPG elements in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, similar to that we have seen in The Witcher 3, Skyrim or Fallout.
That said, what are your thoughts on Ubisoft bringing heavy RPG elements? Let us know in the comments below.
