Apple products are no stranger to catching fire or blasting and this time Apple AirPods is the latest Apple product to become a victim of self-melting reportedly due to the battery overheating.

According to owner Jason Colon, he was at the gym on February 8 when he noticed smoke from right unit’s chassis while it was in his ear. Jason quickly removed it noticing that the right AirPod had “popped” open.

It’s the craziest thing I ever went through. It was already popped. I didn’t see it happen, but I mean, it was already fried. You can see flame damage.

I don’t know what would’ve happened to my ear. But I’m sure since it hangs down, it could’ve been [my] ear lobe. Ear lobe could’ve been burnt.

While the cause of Apple AirPods melting is unknown but according to Colon, the meltdown could be due to battery overheating resulting in the battery damaging the other parts of the AirPod. Apple has noted that it is currently looking into the problem.

Speaking of Apple, It seems that the company might be looking to introduce AR products of its own in near future.
