AMD Vega is supposed to be the high-end GPU architecture that will be tackling Nvidia but the past few leaks are showing results that tell a different story. We have seen AMD Vega benchmarks that show AMD Vega being slower than the GTX 1080 and Titan XP. Previously we were assured that AMD Vega would be competitive but that does not seem to be true.
New leaks seem to be AMD Vega Benchmarks but we are not sure. Hints point towards these being Vega because of the memory frequency that we have seen in previous AMD HBM cards. These are TimeSpy numbers that show that the AMD Vega card performs lower than the GTX 1080, 1080 Ti as well as the Titan XP.
According to the AMD Vega Benchmarks, the Vega card was able to score 5721 points. This is lower than the GTX 1080 at 7152 points, the GTX 1080 Ti at 9521 points and the Titan XP at 9595 points. You can check out the leaked images below. The Ryzen 7 1800X has been used for these benchmarks and you can see how well these two go with one another.
These numbers do contradict with the statement we got earlier that the AMD Vega GPUs will be competitive as compared to Nvidia GTX 1080 and Titan XP but we were never told how. Would this be a raw performance competition or a price to performance thing? This is something that is still not clear and we are excited about learning more.
It is possible that Vega will be competitive when it comes to price to performance and not raw performance. Like what we have seen with AMD Ryzen as compared to Intel. There are still some things that we do not know if. You should take these benchmarks with a grain of salt.
