Football Manager 2020 Crash Fix, Black Screen, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE error, and Calendar bug

Football Manager 2020 is now available on PC, and like many other PC titles, this one too didn’t come without errors. Players are reportedly facing crash issues, stuttering, freezing, black screens, and other in-game bugs. In this guide, we’re going to figure out a few ways of fixing these issues.

Football Manager 2020 Errors and Their Fixes

Below, I have compiled a list of errors that players are experiencing with Football Manager 2020 along with their possible fixes and workarounds.

Game won’t launch

If for some reason you are unable to launch Football Manager 2020, the first thing you should do is check for updates of your game from the official website. If available, install the latest patch to keep it up to date.

If updating Football Manager 2020 doesn’t fix the problem for you, try verifying integrity of your game files in the Steam app. Here’s how you can do that:

Log into your Steam account. Go to “Library”, right-click “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order”, and click “Properties”. Click the “Local files” tab, and click “Verify Integrity Of Game Files”. Steam will check your game files and fix any files that might be causing trouble.

Crashing and Freezing Issues

Many players are having crashing issues with their game. According to the reports, the game would crash on startup or mid-game, and this occurs randomly, thus totally ruining the gaming experience for players.

This problem may occur if you’re using the wrong or outdated graphics card driver. So you should update your graphics driver to see if it fixes your problem. Similarly, overclocking is another reason why your game crashes. If you have overclocked your CPU or GPU, set their clock speeds back to the default.

Next, disable Windows fullscreen optimization. Open the file location where Football Manager 2020 is saved on your computer. Right-click on that file and select “Properties”. Click the “Compatibility” tab, and check the box next to “Disable full-screen optimizations”. Click “Apply” and OK to save your changes.

If the problem still persists, you should try uninstalling and re-installing the game, then check to see if it works properly.

Mouse cursor keeps flickering in-game

Some players on forums reported that they experience a weird issue where the mouse flickers constantly when moved, but stops flickering when not moved. In this case, you should try playing the game in windowed mode.

To switch between the fullscreen and windowed mode, hit the Alt-Enter key on your keyboard while the game is running in fullscreen mode. Check to see if that fixes the problem.

Calendar bug

For some players, the game gets stuck on the calendar, which is really annoying. Developers must be aware of this bug and should release a fix in the next update. For a temporary fix though, click on browse. Go to “Inbox” and click on the news item the day before it got stuck. Then press “Continue”. This should fix the problem for now.

Black Screen Fix

If your game is stuck on a black screen on launch then go to the location where Football Manager 2020 is saved on your computer, and right-click on the FM.exe. Then click “Run as Administrator”. If that doesn’t help, launch the game to launch in maximum borderless windowed mode and you should no longer encounter the issue.

Unable to Initialise Steam API

If you try to launch the game but receive a message from Steam saying “Unable to initialise Steam API,” then it’s likely there is some kind of conflict. In this case, try disabling your anti-virus program and run the game again to see if that fixes the problem.

DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE error

This is another message players receive when they’re playing or attempting to launch Football Manager 2020. DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE error generally occurs due to an issue with your graphics card.

First, check your system against Football Manager 2020’s minimum specifications. If your system meets these, uninstall and re-install your graphics card drivers.
