Dead Island 2 Coming to PS5 and Xbox Scarlett, Leak Claims

A new leak suggests that Dead Island 2 will release alongside Playstation 5 and Xbox Scarlett. THQ Nordic is developing it and have included new tech in it.

It’s no secret that Dead Island 2 is in development, although we barely know anything about it. A leak has just surfaced on Reddit claiming that the game will release in 2020, around the time Playstation 5 and Xbox Scarlett release. Apparently, the developers are already working on PS5 dev kits and they’re similar to what the leaked models look like.

According to the new leak, Dead Island 2 is still in development and its release won’t be more than a year ahead. This doesn’t come as a relief since 2020 already has a huge amount of new titles releasing and everyone is unsure about the console scene for the next year.

At least THQ Nordic has a plan set for Dead Island 2 as they intend to release it on next-gen consoles and they’ll push its launch to be around that time. In addition, the developing team is working on a Playstation 4 dev kit that looks exactly like what the leaks suggest. User MrJaxerino says:

So Dead Island 2 is still in development by THQ Nordic (which we already knew). The new information I learned from a developer on the game is that the team is looking to target a 2020 release to launch alongside the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett. Also, the team is also apparently working on some new gore technology that utilizes “sub polygon displacement”. I am in no way an expert on these things but that is what I was told. Finally, as a kind of obvious statement, the team at THQ Nordic does have PS5 dev kits and they do in fact look like the leaks.

Seeing Dead Island 2 have a new gore system is a breath of fresh air, since we’re talking about one of the most loved zombie franchises ever created. Its release bares great promise and the fact that the team is pushing its physics is promising to say the least.

Back in August, Dambmaster Studios has been announced to be taking over the reins of development, this time from Sumo Digital, who took over from Yager Development. The latest leak suggests that THQ Nordic is working on it instead but it most possibly is a collective project for Deep Silver.

There’s no release date for Dead Island 2 yet. However, if the leak is true then we should expect it sometime during October-December 2020.
