11 Bit Studios, the studio behind This War of Mine and Frostpunk is picking up their sleeves in order to bring us a brand new video game. In a recent interview we held with Pawel Miechowski, managing partner at 11-bit Studios, we found out that the studio is pushing their new title to next-generation consoles. As Pawel puts it, it will be an AA+ title with a message to share.
Much like most indie developers, 11 Bit too, believes in simultaneously releasing their video games on all platforms. Their upcoming title will release on PC and consoles, with the possibility of it hitting next-generation consoles too. While Pawel Miechowski didn’t give us a solid yes to whether or not their next project will release on Playstation 5 and Xbox Scarlett, it seems obvious for recognized indie studios to go the long mile and start talking next-gen.
The studio behind This War of Mine was quick to push their games to consoles when it was possible, reaching to more people and delivering great experiences. Regarding their next big project, Mr. Miechowski said:
Our next big thing is still secret and I can tell just a codename – Project 8 because it’s our 8th game. And yes, we’re aiming for PC and consoles and very likely we’re going to hit next-gen consoles. Google Stadia is a different pair of shoes and we’ll see where this is going. We keep hands on the pulse.
When it comes to indie games, both This War of Mine and Frostpunk are somewhere between the best 20 titles we’ve ever seen. It doesn’t come as a surprise that their developer wants to push the limits even more, both in gameplay and plot. The developer admits that they want Project 8 to be more than a game. With their history, we’re optimistic that it will happen.
When we defined our philosophy of creating meaningful entertainment, our goal was to make games that are addicting, well-done gameplay-wise and at the same time having power to spread a message or provoke to thinking. Both did a great job, getting acclaim from gamers and the industry, winning a ton of awards and prestigious nominations. With the next one, we want to raise the bar even higher not only when it comes to quality but also in terms of ability to be something more than a game.
As it seems, Project 8 will be available to next-gen consoles which is both a curse and a blessing. We do want to see what the studio has in store for us but for it to become available to Playstation 5 and Xbox Scarlett it must mean that it is still in early development. However, they’re also working on another DLC for Frostpunk so that you can still be occupied until then.
