Update: It sees like PlayGround Games is working both on Action RPG (probably Fable 4) and a Forza game. A new job listing has surfaced indicating that the Action RPG is in early stages of development.
Original Story:
Playground Games is hiring for a brand new AAA open-world action RPG. The creators of Forza Horizon, Forza Horizon 4, and Forza Horizon 3, are creating their first RPG game for Microsoft’s Xbox and Windows 10.
There were multiple rumors that this new action RPG is none-other than Fable. After the cancellation of Fable Legends, the franchise has hardly been mentioned by Microsoft.
But when Playground Games announced it’s working on an RPG game, we speculated that Microsoft might have put its first-party studio in charge of the franchise.
However, this new listing is kind of killing our hopes for Fable 4. As mentioned by the job listing, this is an “entirely new AAA open-world action RPG.”
Playground Games is looking for an Animation Director to lead a world-class Animation team on an entirely new AAA open-world action / RPG project. You will work closely with the Art Director and Cinematics Director to develop and drive the artistic vision for this AAA project and take responsibility for an exceptional team, as well as being a key member of the project leadership group.
In addition to an animation director, Playground Games is also looking for an animation engineer, art director, and AI engineer.
While an entirely new RPG sounds good, Fable 4 fans would find this somewhat disappointing especially after the recent reports of its resurrection.
Earlier this year, Xbox Games Marketing Manager Aaron Greenberg had the following to say when asked about Fable 4 announcement during an upcoming Inside Xbox episode.
We have some surprises planned. I’ll leave it at that. But yeah, I think that we’ll have a great show. We also have a lot of games coming out in the spring. It’s I think the biggest lineup of games we’re ever had in the spring. In that window of time between XO and E3, we have a lot of stuff to show, and people can get hands-with it and talk about it.
Needless to say, the announcement never happened. But Fable 4 appeared again in a more meaningful way when the game’s listing popped up on Mixer, a streaming platform owned by Microsoft.
The listing came up a couple of weeks before E3 2019 which led many to speculate that Microsoft is preparing to announce the game at E3. Again, that never took place.
When and if Fable will ever see the light of day remains to be seen. But WE ARE excited to know about this new action RPG from Playground Games.
