A rumor has made its way to the internet stating that there’s a reboot or sequel of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale being developed by Sony, in coordination with Capcom. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2, like its predecessor, will be a Super Smash Bros. style fighting game. This means that the most popular characters from the PlayStation world will crossover to fight each other in the game.
The game will supposedly be a 3D brawler/action/arena to be released at the launch of PlayStation 5. The original PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale was released in 2012 on PlayStation 3 and Vita, warmly welcomed by public and critics.
The rumor first emerged when a presumed Capcom USA employee uploaded some confidential information on the internet. And the internet did it what it does best. Consequently, the supposed leak took over 4Chan and other discussion boards.
According to the rumor, Sony would be developing the title so as to publish it for the launch in 2020 for PlayStation 5. They will put in lots of money to finance this project because they think it will boost PlayStation 5’s appeal on launch. It will then be launched in 2021 on PC. This would be in line with Shawn Layden’s statements regarding how he wants Sony to publish their games on other platforms. However, there won’t be cross play.
If it follows the Super Smash Bros. formula, it will have over the top animations. They will also presumably have cartoon-like graphics and the gameplay will be made so that it can attract both casual and eSport players.
Here is the likely roster of the game:
- Nathan Drake
- Kratos
- Sackboy
- Ratchet & Clank
- Jak & Daxter
- Spider-Man
- Aloy (Horizon)
- Helghast (Killzone)
- Crash Bandicoot
- Spyro
- Tomb Raider (Tomb Raider Legend)
- Jill Valentine
- Sir Daniel Fortesque
- Kat
- Dante
- Parappa The Rapper
- Ellie (Last of Us)
- Delsin Rowe (inFamous)
- Cloud (FF7 Remake)
- Solid Snake
- Ryu
Chun-Li
Let us repeat that this is still just a rumor. Until there is further confirmation, take it with a grain of sand.
