Some more Mortal Kombat 11 information that involves the game’s story, its characters, and more gameplay will be coming next week, according to a recent statement by developers NetherRealm Studios. The game was previously revealed at the Game Awards in December via a brutal trailer, but we haven’t learned much about the game otherwise.

The last Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat X, completely turned the franchise on its head. In addition to moving the game’s timeline forward, it also gave us a number of new characters, revamped gameplay, and an epic and well-regarded story mode. Mortal Kombat 11 will likely continue this trend, especially given how the last game ended, with Shinnok defeated and Liu Kang and Kitara ruling Netherrealm together while Raiden threatened them to stay away from Earthrealm.

Mortal Kombat X was hailed as a return to form on the series after the controversial Mortal Kombat 9, but what exactly NetherRealm Studios has in store for us will have to be revealed next week. More Mortal Kombat 11 information, especially given what all we’ll be getting with it, is always a good thing after all.

So far, in addition to new looks for Raiden and Scorpion, the Game Awards Mortal Kombat 11 trailer gave us a new fatality, and apparently a new map, being the destroyed temple on Shang Tsung’s island.

Considering all of the new characters and maps that we got with Mortal Kombat X, getting more Mortal Kombat 11 information will hopefully show off a few cool new characters that we can look forward to getting, whether it’s more “normal” human characters like Erron Black, or unconventional newcomers like Devorah or Ferra/Torr.

We’ll also have to wonder what the game’s story will bring us in the meantime. With Shinnok defeated and likely unable to return any time soon, we’ll likely be dealing with the undead revenants of those characters that died during Mortal Kombat X and were resurrected by Quan Chi…along with a Quan Chi that was apparently resurrected on the side of good.

Either way, we’ll be seeing more Mortal Kombat 11 information on January 17 at 11 AM. Mortal Kombat 11 will be coming to the Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 23.
