Players Who Downloaded Fallout 76 Aren’t Eligible for a Refund: Bethesda

If we are talking about Fallout 76, one of the most asked questions by disgruntled fans is “how to get a refund?” To answer this question we decided to contact Bethesda support and see how they are handling this. As it turns out, Bethesda is handling this as poorly as it handled the game’s release, marketing, and development.

According to Bethesda support, players who downloaded the game aren’t eligible for a refund. If you have downloaded the game files you paid for with your purchased bandwidth, you are not eligible for a refund. It doesn’t matter if you have played the game or not, just having Fallout 76 game files on your PC means you have lost your money.

If you are one of the lucky ones who purchased but hasn’t downloaded the game yet, you can ask for a refund.

Unlike Steam, where players can download and play for 2 hours before asking for a refund, it seems only downloading Fallout 76 would end up making you ineligible for a refund from Bethesda.

Fallout 76 players are already outraged by the fact that it went on sale in a matter of weeks after its release. The game first dropped to $40 and later Bethesda slashed another $5 off the price. Seeing this, many started asking for a refund from Bethesda and earlier reports suggested that many were actually getting it.

According to Bethesda’s return policy UK and EU customers:

If you want to download digital content within the 30-day cancelation period, you must agree to waive your cancelation rights.

So under these circumstances what exactly can you do to get your money back? Well, it seems there is only one option and that is to file chargeback at your bank.

What’s even concerning is the fact that those who are eligible for a refund are still not getting their money back. Bethesda promised refunds to customers┬ábut the company backed out by saying they “do not have the ability to start processing refunds at this time.” However, they assured that the refund process will begin soon for eligible customers. This statement here was provided to a customer who downloaded and played the game.

Bethesda promising refunds to those who downloaded and played the game is contradicting its own policy. But it seems its policy varies by region.
