We finally have a release date for Crackdown 3 which has been a big target of delays from Microsoft all these years. The game is filled with content, new gameplay mechanics, campaign and multiplayer. The Devs behind this game pass exclusive, Crackdown 3 recently sat down to talk about what’s inside the game and why it took so much time to arrive.
Yes, Crackdown 3 release date is now set and Microsoft has guaranteed that it’s not going to be delayed again. Crackdown 3 comes with cloud-powered technology which we will be able to try in its campaign and multiplayer mode. The world in Crackdown is 4 times bigger than the previous games in the series.
Crackdown 3 consists of a very interesting single-player campaign. It will allow you to do crazy things like punching enemies across the map and more.
Microsoft Studios’ Creative Director Joseph Staten and Head of Production Jorg Neumann recently sat down with Windows Central to discuss the game and what the future holds for them.
The Devs discussed the problems and the main issues which resulted in so many delays, stretching the release date till 2019.
Joseph Staten explained it by saying:
[We] knew going in when we started Crackdown that this technological heavy lift — Azure powered, multiplayer fully destructible environments — was going to take a lot of investment, a lot of time to get right. To a large extent, the project schedule has largely been driven by that technology investment. We really have landed this fully destructible Azure-powered experience. It’s really unlike any game that we’ve tried to design before, where you can blow up all of the geometry.
Furthermore, the team also talked about the level of extreme destruction in the game. This delay also resulted in the team focusing on the campaign of Crackdown 3 by going deeper in terms of storyline and content.
The game is now more polished than it could have ever been which means better quality without any compromises.
One of the things I always think about when designing a game — geometry is gameplay. Whether it’s cover based, or any sort of shooter type game, so much of the gameplay is about “what is my position relative to cover? what is the enemy’s position relative to cover?” If you can just blow up everything, a lot of those principles of game design need to be rethought.
Crackdown 3 is going to have a friend-invite only campaign. It consists of a very big world with lots of guns for you to choose from. There are no limitations, you can do whatever you like the way you like. There’s no prescribed way to defeat bosses in the game.
Staten also made it clear that they are not thinking about post-launch content as of now. They want to test out everything before they make further decisions.
The team has also made it clear that they are not going for microtransactions or loot boxes in Crackdown 3. Well, that’s something good to know after seeing insane microtransactions in games like Battlefront 2.
Crackdown 3 release date is set for February 15, 2019, and it’s going to be available through the game pass service on Xbox One.
