AMD 7nm CPUs Will Provide Better Perf/Watt Than Intel 10nm

AMD 7nm CPUs are being sampled right now and the question on everyone’s mind is whether these chips can compete with the upcoming Intel 10nm chips. The only issue is that while we know that AMD is on track with the 7nm process, we have no idea when Intel is going to release the 10nm CPUs and whether or not Intel is even planning a 2019 release.

The first generation of AMD CPUs was based on the 14nm process from GF. AMD 7nm CPUs are based on the process from TSMC. This is a superior process as compared to the one that AMD was using before. Now, not only is AMD using a great architecture but a better process as well.

The move to the 7nm process will not only increase performance per watt but will also reduce the overall power that it consumes. It will also enable these chips to clock higher. All this is in favor of AMD and the company is continuing to gain traction and is chasing Intel’s market share. AMD shared have increased ever since it announced the AMD 7nm EPYC Rome CPUs.

AMD CEO Lisa Su has announced that the company is partnering with Amazon Cloud Solution in order to power their servers. The following is what she had to say in this regard:

Incredibly proud to announce today that AMDServer EPYC processors are now powering three new awscloud instance types. Excited about this great partnership and what we can achieve together for the datacenter of the future!

2018 has been a great year for AMD and keeping in mind that these chips will release next year, it seems that 2019 is going to be even better for the company. We will have to wait and see what kind of performance AMD 7nm chips will have to offer as compared to previous generation chips and the competition. But I can already say that things seem to be going great for AMD.
