Ghost of Tsushima Dev Talks About the Pressure to Develop a Quality Sony Exclusive

Ghost of Tsushima PS4 is the latest and biggest title in works by Sucker Punch. It’s quite unique and different from their previous games as it’s based on feudal Japan. Sucker Punch has worked on big titles like Infamous and the Sly Cooper games but Ghost of Tsushima is without a doubt one of the most anticipated titles for PlayStation 4.

After hits like Spiderman and God Of War, it’s pretty obvious that the developers have to work really hard to maintain that standard of quality. That’s what exactly happened with the team of Sucker Punch. There’s a lot of pressure on them but they call it a “good pressure”. In a recent interview, creative director Nate Fox talked about the authenticity of the game and the pressure to develop a quality Sony exclusive.

We absolutely feel pressure to live up to the standards set by these other Sony PlayStation exclusives — but what a good pressure it is. We want to provide players with the same joyful experience that they got from these other great games — and what’s better is these other studios, they talk to us, they give us tips, we learn from each other. We feel more capable than ever because of those studios being more open with their knowledge.

Nate Fox is very excited for the game to be based on feudal Japan and thinks that it brings a lot of romantic things about it. He believes that feudal Japan has been underused always by the western developers and he doesn’t know why because it’s very appealing.

Ghost of Tsushima Dev also talked about how Japanese culture is totally different from the previous games in Seattle. The team is always learning about the Japanese culture and expects all the players to discover the beauty of feudal Japan.

Games are moving around. Feudal Japan just happened to be a place that, as a developer, I know I was eager to spend a lot of time trying to recreate. And as a gamer, I really wanted to play an open-world samurai game. And that’s just one excellent place in history – there are so many more.

Well, we are more than just excited to see exactly what Sucker Punch is going to bring us with their new setting in Japan. There’s no release date yet for the game but it’s expected to be released sometime in 2019.
