There are many secrets to uncover in the latest game inspired by the Cthulhu mythos. From a gameplay perspective, these secrets come in the form of elaborate puzzles that your character, Detective Edward Pierce, will need to solve. Let’s take a look at one such case, the Nameless Bookstore Puzzle in Call of Cthulhu.

Call of Cthulhu Nameless Bookstore Puzzle

The puzzle starts when you need a combination of numbers to access a locked safe. Although you can look around for clues to this particular set of numbers, we’ve already done the hard work for you guys.

Going from the left to the right, the code is “5 3 9”. If you’re the DIY kind of person, then we’ll guide you towards the extended method as well. This involves a little bit of exploration and playing around.

Making your way to the bookstore, your job would be to search for the three Drake Cylinders. Each of these cylinders is pretty easy to find so we’ll leave you guys to it.

However, the clues from each on these cylinders can take a bit of head scratching to decipher and figure out. Each cylinder will display some snippets of information when used on the Phonograph.

The first cylinder directs you to find a Golden Chalice. This can be found on the opposite side of the room from where you acquired the cylinder. Interact with the chalice there and inside, you’ll be able to count about five Red Rubies.

Cylinder #2 gives you a clue along the lines of “7 soldiers defending the queen”. This relates to the Chess Table in the same room as the Phonograph.

Glancing at the chess pattern, you’ll notice that soldiers are a reference to the white chess pieces around the queen piece. However, as you can observe, there will only be three white pieces defending the queen.

The last Drake Cylinder leads you to the book titled “Azathoth”. It lies on a shelf within the front of the bookstore. Taking a look at it, you can interpret the volume number of the book that is nine.

There you have it, all three numbers you require to open the safe, 5, 3 and 9, in that particular order.
