Fortnite Addiction Is Reportedly The Cause Of 5% Of All Divorces In UK This Year

A UK based website has noted that Fortnite addiction along with other online games has contributed to 5% of overall divorces in the UK.

Fortnite is currently one of the most popular games in the world and a UK based website has noted that Fortnite addiction along with other online games has contributed to 5% of overall divorces in the UK.

The website in question has noted that 5% of all the divorces in the UK are a result of Fortnite addiction among other online games.

According to the website, they started to investigate divorce petitions citing Fortnite and other online games since it saw a rising trend since the start of the year.

The site noted that it has “received 200 divorce petitions since January 1 [2018] where addiction to Fortnite and other online gaming has been cited as one of the reasons for divorce. This equates to roughly 5% of the 4,665 petitions we have handled since the beginning of the year”.

The site claims that it handles 5% of all the divorces in the UK and wales. Also, it is important to note that none of the applications cite Fortnite addiction as the only reason for the divorce instead it is one of the reasons for the divorce.

However, this is not the only time Fortnite addiction has been mentioned as a cause of a divorce or suicide as last month a report made its way online revealing Fortnite addiction led to a 17-year-old attempting suicide.

Reportedly, the boy barely ate or slept and noted that he was “miserable and unable to function”. Just a few months after he started playing the game, Thompson decided that the only way to escape is to die.

The boy tried to jump from the roof but, his father got there on time and pulled him back and is now having treatment.

As a gamer myself it is hard to understand how can a game can cause a divorce, however, there are people that tend to play games too much which can lead to such situations.

If we manage our game time with our chores and responsibilities I believe that such incidents will at least reduce.

Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale title developed by Epic Games for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
