Intel 9th generation CPU roadmap has been leaked and from the looks of things Intel is actually including the core i9 in their mainstream series of CPUs and while these core i9 chips will have 8 cores they will be clocked higher as compared to the i7 SKUs. The Intel 9th generation CU roadmap also confirms that the upcoming series of chips will work fine with the current 300 series motherboards but I am sure that you will need a BIOS update in order for that to work properly.
Intel 9th Generation CPU Roadmap 2018-19
Intel 9th generation CPU roadmap shows that there will be at least 3 K series SKUs that will be overclockable. These chips include the flagship Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700K and the Core i5-9600K. These chips will be compatible with the current chipsets but you will need a Z series motherboard if you are looking to overclock your CPU. The Core i9-9900K comes with 8 cores and 16 threads, Core i7-9700K comes with 8 cores and 8 threads, the Core i5-9600K comes with 6 cores and 6 threads.
This is the first time that an Intel i9 chip will be released as a mainstream CPU and it also the first time that Intel if offering 8 cores and 16 threads in the mainstream series of CPUs. There are still some chips that have not been named so you can expect to see a whole array of CPUs with a lot of variety. The 8 core CPUs will be able to boost to 5 GHz but that is not true for all 8 cores. Only 2 cores will be able to run at 5 GHz. 4 cores will run at 4.8 GHz while 6 and 8 cores will boost to 4.7 GHz. These chips will have a 95W TDP.
It is interesting to note that while the Z390 chipset is expected to come out by the end of the year, the CPUs won’t be coming out till 2019. It is possible that the unlocked CPUs will come out at this years end while the other chips in the series will come out in 2019.
While this leak does confirm a lot of information that we already had, it is not from Intel. So you will need to take this with a grain of salt.
