With Red Dead Redemption 2 getting ever-closer to release, Rockstar is starting to promote it more through Grand Theft Auto 5, specifically its online mode. But here’s how you can get the GTA 5 stone hatchet weapon for yourself before Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out on October 26 of this year on Xbox One and Playstation 4.
While it will only be one more addition to the huge amount of different weapons that players are able to obtain in Grand Theft Auto Online, ranging from regular pistols and assault rifles to miniguns, rocket launchers, and a market for an orbital weapon satellite, the stone hatchet is distinctive due to it being a promotional item.
Players were also able to obtain a golden double-action revolver by following a special map and going on a treasure hunt, which was also intended to promote Red Dead Redemption 2, so the GTA 5 stone hatchet weapon is the second in what might be a number of special promotional weapons.
Dataminers uncovered the stone hatchet after the After Hours update, which allowed players to start up their own nightclubs. While the actual mission hasn’t unlocked yet (Rockstar is likely waiting for some other established date to make it go live), we at least can tell you how it will work when it does go live.
First, you’ll be getting a text message from Maude Eccles, who will start giving you bounties to kill. While there are twenty of these that you can complete, you only have to do five in order to get the treasure map that will lead you to the hatchet.
However, just getting the hatchet in GTA 5 isn’t all. You can get the same GTA 5 stone hatchet weapon in Red Dead Redemption 2, but you have to do that by getting 25 kills with it. The axe also comes with a “Rampage” ability that gives you temporary invincibility if you can chain kills together, though using a melee weapon in a multiplayer game is risky.
Once again, Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out on October 26 of this year on the Xbox One and Playstation 4.
