AMD Ryzen 7 2700X vs Intel Core i7-8700K Gaming Benchmarks, So Who Is The Winner?

With AMD launching is 2nd-gen Ryzen many hardware enthusiasts have wondered which one is better for gaming, the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X or Intel Core i7-8700K.

With AMD launching its 2nd-gen Ryzen CPUs many hardware enthusiasts have wondered which one is better for gaming, the Ryzen 7 2700X or Intel Core i7-8700K. This is a question that we will be answering today with AMD Ryzen 7 2700X vs Core i7-8700K gaming benchmarks.

The gaming benchmarks for AMD Ryzen 7 2700X and Intel Core i7-8700K were done by Youtuber Hardware Unboxed. The youtuber benchmarked 35 games for both Ryzen 7 2700X and Intel Core i7-8700K including Battlefield 1, Far Cry 5, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite and more.

First, let us see the rigs used for the benchmarks. For the Intel Core i7-8700K, Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7 motherboard, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti and 16 GB of DDR4 RAM were used, Not only that, the CPU cores are overclocked at 5.0 GHz.

As for the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X, ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VII HERO motherboard, Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti and 16 GB of DDR4 Ram were used. The CPU has also been overclocked to 4.2 GHz.

All of the 35 games were benchmarked for 720p, 1080p and 1440p. Now the main question is which processor came on top in the benchmarks.

Interestingly, the Intel Core i7-8700K stayed ahead of the competition in the benchmarks in most cases. The i7-8700K showcased better performance for games in 720p and 1080p. However, as the resolution increases the difference in the average FPS gap between the two CPUs starts to get close.

As you can see in the video below, Battlefield 1 ran at an average FPS of 194 at 720p for i7-8700K and for Ryzen 7 2700X the game managed to render 178 FPS on average at 720p.

However, as the resolution increases, the performance gap starts to get close but, that doesn’t mean that at higher resolution, the Ryzen 7 2700X is the winner as in some of the benchmarks the  i7-8700K stays ahead of the competition at 1440p, case and point,  Far Cry 5, Rainbow Six Siege and PUBG.

As for the overall results, the Intel Core i7-8700K was 13% faster compared to Ryzen 7 2700X in 720p benchmarks, in 1080p benchmarks, the i7-8700K was 9% faster compared to its competition.

As we mentioned earlier that as the resolution gets higher the performance gap closes and in 1440p benchmarks the i7-8700K was 4% faster on average compared to AMD Ryzen 7 2700X.

Deciding the winner is difficult here since both CPUs have managed to output some great performance which also varies depending on the game itself.

So we will leave the decision to you. Which CPU do you think is the winner here? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
