A recent Fortnite related tweet might have just helped to hint towards the Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Battle Royale mode that is rumored to be coming up in Treyarch’s new Call of Duty game. While there’s no guarantee that it’s true, many Call of Duty fans have latched onto the new theory.
The hint in question is one Fortnite character with a new skin wearing a dog tag that has what appears to be the Black Ops 4 logo on it, a series of four vertical lines. The tweet was originally supposed to promote the upcoming Chromium Outfit and Persuader Pickaxe in the game’s store, but for Call of Duty fans that’s fallen by the wayside.
With the rampant success of battle royale games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite, many other developers are apparently discussing how they can take advantage of the genre’s popularity in their own games. There have been various hints that Call of Duty Black Ops 4 might have a number of different things in it.
Playtesters have apparently said that the game’s multiplayer plays a lot like Overwatch, and there have also been rumors that there won’t even be a campaign mode in this game, and that it will be multiplayer-focused only. A game like that would be great for a Battle Royale mode, especially since Fortnite’s own Battle Royale mode is essentially an entirely separate game from the original Fortnite concept.
Activision has also mentioned Fortnite by name in a previous financial call, leading to more hints that we might be getting a Call of Duty Battle Royale game.
While Epic and Activision have yet to confirm if a Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Battle Royale mode is in the works, teaming up together in order to develop such a thing would likely be the best approach, since Fortnite is rapidly eclipsing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in popularity.
