Intel i7-8086K Will Be A Special Edition CPU For The 40th Anniversary Of x86

Intel i7-8086K will be a special edition CPU for the 40th anniversary of X64 CPUs. The CPU will feature 6 cores and 12 threads and will feature higher clock speeds as compared to the 8700K. The CPU will feature dual-channel DDR4-2666 memory. The CPU is based on the 14nm process and will feature a base clock of 4 GHz and a boost clock of 5 GHz.

The CPU will come with an unlocked multiplier so you will be able to take the CPU higher than the 5 GHz mark. Intel i7-8086K will feature a TDP of 95W. If the leaks are to be believed the Intel i7-8086K will be released on June 8th, 2018 exactly 40 years after the premiere of the 8086. Keeping in mind that these screenshots have been leaked ahead of time, it is safe to assume that some people already have their hands on the unit.

While the boost clock is 5 GHz and the CPU is unlocked but I doubt that there will be plenty of headroom keeping in mind that this is based on the same process and the architecture as the 8700K. Till we have more news or the sample itself, I cannot make a claim regarding the overclocking potential of the CPU.

It should be noted that the Intel Pentium G3258 is also a CPU that has been released as a 20th-anniversary edition but it did not get very popular amongst the users. Having that said it should be interesting to see how the crowd responds to the Intel i7-8086K. Seeing how the CPU will be coming out in June we will have to wait a bit, but things should be worth it.
