Concrete Genie From “Children’s Illustration Storybooks,” Especially for the Dark Parts

Concrete Genie takes most of its inspiration from children's illustrated storybooks. The PS4 game is coming out later this year, the developer speaks about the amazing concept of Concrete Genie.

Every now and then there comes a game that aims to spark the creativity in modern-day dull brains. One such game is currently under development at Pixelopus. The game is coming to PlayStation 4 soon. It is a unique title that centers around the creativity of a young bullied boy.

You play as Ash who is painting on the walls of a dark city and his creations come to life. The paint he uses is enhanced. The colorful graffiti helps the populated walls of his city. He runs around painting all the while escaping from his bullies.

It is a kid-friendly experience and takes inspirations from children’s storybooks, especially for some of its darkest tales. According to Dominic Robillard, the game’s creative:

We love their handcrafted and magical quality. When you combine that with modern lighting and lensing techniques, it makes for a believable world that you could almost imagine stepping into. You don’t have to be an artist to paint in our game – it’s fun watching people experience the type of creative agency and satisfaction that usually only gifted artists feel. Painting can be a wonderful way to tune out other things that are going on in your life. Imagining what you are trying to make, and then bringing that to fruition, can be empowering and liberating.

The game is expected to release sometime this year for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. A final release date for the title is expected to be shared in a few month’s time.
