Blizzard Job Listing Indicates The Existence Of A New First Person Shooter Title
It’s official, Blizzard is working on a new title to add to the roster. We may not know yet what this project is about but we got some straightforward details from a job listing for a Senior Software Engineer to work on the title.
The requirements for the position are pretty standard ranging from Expert C++ programming skills to self-motivation and self-directing. The job listing reads:
“Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented gameplay engineer to help create vehicles and build vehicle handling features in a robust first-person engine for an unannounced project.
The ideal candidate has proven experience in vehicle handling, with exposure to other game systems like physics, animation, and cameras.”
What could this new unannounced project be? From our point of view, this could one of three things, a spinoff title for either Starcraft 2 or Overwatch or a completely new IP featuring playable and drivable vehicles.
If this project is indeed a spinoff or a sequel to Starcraft 2 or Overwatch it won’t play the role a trend-setter but will probably be worked on as a complimentary title like Heroes of the Storm.
At the possibility of it being based on Starcraft, it could be something related to Terrans or even Protoss with FPS gameplay and mech driving. If on the other hand it’s based on Overwatch then the possibilities widen even more since its universe is so new that no one could tell what else it could involve.
Let’s be real though, we are all hoping that this new unannounced project by Blizzard is a new IP. It wasn’t long ago that Overwatch was officially released as a new IP but its development has started many years behind. Given this information, it could be a long time until we learn some new information about this supposedly new FPS vehicle driving video game.
What do you think this new project by Blizzard is about? Would you rather see a spinoff title or a new IP?
