Nier Automata launched for PC and PS4 and is one of the many critically acclaimed games to launch this year but, the game was not always intended as a multi-platform title as Platinum Games has revealed that originally NieR Automata was a PC exclusive.
Speaking with WowJapan, producer Yosuke Saito revealed that NieR Automata was originally planned as a PC exclusive title but after discussion with the publisher, Square Enix, the studio decided to launch the game for PS4 too. He added that the game’s engine was “geared towards the PC”.
We had planned to release the game only for PC. However, following input from the publishers the decision was made for the game to be released on the PlayStation 4 as well. The game was created on Platinum game’s engine, which was geared towards the PC. So ultimately the platform choice had no bearing on the way the game was designed. […] Most of the development process is done on the PC anyway, we ran with it.
Also, game director Yoko Taro has revealed that he would be interested in a sequel to NieR Automata and added that fans will probably won’t like it because it will be a completely different game.
I think I’d imagine a NieR: Automata sequel that everyone is thinking about, then make something that is not that. I’m going to ruin it, is what I’m thinking.
However, Taro is not the only one thinking about the sequel as Square Enix is looking for script writers for a NieR related project.
Also, since the launch of the game, there has been no patch of any sort to fix the game’s issues on PC and Square Enix has addressed the issue why Platinum Games isn’t rolling any updates or patches to fix the game’s issue. According to Square Enix, Platinum Games can fix these issues alone.
NieR Automata is an action RPG developed by Platinum Games for PC and PlayStation 4.
