GTA V is one of the best games of last and current-generation of consoles, however, since the launch, there has been no GTA V single-player expansion or DLC and Rockstar Games has been rolling out DLC for the online component of the game and now the studio has revealed the lack of single-player content.
Rockstar director of design Imran Sarwar explained to GameInformer that not releasing any GTA V single-player content was not a conscious decision but, it happened due to the development circumstances of the game as the next-gen version took a year of the dev team’s time.
No, it was not really a conscious decision, it’s just what happened. With GTA V, the single-player game was absolutely massive and very, very complete. It was three games in one. The next-gen versions took a year of everyone’s time to get right, then the online component had a lot of potential but to come close to realizing that potential, also sucked up a lot of resources. And then there are other games – in particular Red Dead Redemption II. The combination of these three factors means for this game, we did not feel single-player expansions were either possible or necessary.
In related news, GTA V has been immensely successful for Rockstar Games and the studio is currently working on Red Dead Redemption 2 which will launch in early 2018. However, publisher Take-Two doesn’t expect RDR2 to be as successful as GTA V.
According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, it is unlikely that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be able to achieve the success of GTA V.
GTA V is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Rockstar Games for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360
