Star Wars Battlefront 2 is releasing next month on PlayStation 4, Xbox One X and PC, with Nintendo Switch owners being left out of the hype train. Even though bringing such a title to the Nintendo Switch isn’t an easy task to do, EA hinted that a version of Star Wars Battlefront 2 may come to the console, but not in the near future.
While talking to Gamespot, Motive Studios producer David Robillard said that this may happen, but only if they see opportunities:
“This is something we’ll explore if we see opportunities there, but it is not something that’s on the books right now”
Bringing Star Wars Battlefront 2 to the Nintendo Switch is much more difficult than it appears. Bringing a multiplayer game of that caliber to the console is a challenge since it contains massive space battles and huge maps. But even if something like that was possible, keep in mind that the game will be much more different than on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 uses Frostbite engine which is still not used in any titles for the Nintendo Switch. FIFA 18 which is also made on Frostbite but recently also released on Nintendo Switch, was made on a custom engine for the Nintendo console so that its performance would not suffer under the big hardware pressure that Frostbite might cause.
If Star Wars Battlefront 2’s sales are noticeably higher than those of its predecessor then EA might think of bringing it to the Nintendo Switch. This might be the biggest reason actually to proceed to its port for the Switch. Noone knows if such a thing will be for the greater good though since Star Wars Battlefront 2 might not be such a graphical masterpiece on this console than what we’ll see in November when it releases on all other platforms.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is releasing on November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Preorders for the game are live on EA Origin, PlayStation Store, and Xbox Marketplace.
