FIFA 18 On Nintendo Switch is Not on Frostbite, Here is Why
How long have you waited to play FIFA 18 on a handheld console? Your dream might be actually coming true next month as the famous football game releases on Nintendo Switch.
Apart from the hype that football fans will be able to play the game on their Switch consoles there’s one catch, FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch is not made on the Frostbite engine. As it seems Frostbite is not enough to deliver the game to Nintendo’s console with the graphics and size it should be.
As Andrei Lazarescu, one of the developers of the Nintendo Switch edition says to DreamTeamFC:
“We intentionally chose to do a custom engine because we felt that rather and try and get Frostbite running and end up having to downsize things and making it just a smaller, lower-quality version of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, we wanted this to be a FIFA that stands on its own two feet.”
Lazarescu points out that the Nintendo Switch edition of FIFA 18 will be nothing like the ones offered for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, as it will feature 1080p and 60 frames per seconds when docked and connected to your TV.
Also FIFA 18 on Switch will be a little different in aspect of gameplay too. Career Mode will be nothing like the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions with it’s gameplay be as it was last year on FIFA 17. Fans are not particularly happy with the fact that The Journey: Hunter’s Return will be absent from tihs version of the game but, when it comes to handheld gaming you win some you lose some.
As Andrei Lazarescu states:
“We’re using physical-based rendering. The crowds are 3D. The grass is 3D. The lighting is new. And on top of that you’ll have Ultimate Team for the first time on Nintendo – and for the first time you’ll be able to take it on the go. You’ll be able to play on a plane, on a bus, even from just a hotspot.”
FIFA 18 will be releasing in September 29 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. For Nintendo Switch we have 3 editions: Basic, Ronaldo (Deluxe) and ICON (Super Deluxe) Editions.
