The Bethesda Game of Thrones Game Is Just A Hoax, Unfortunately
Gamers that were hoping for an open-world Bethesda Game of Thrones game that would allow you to walk around Westeros are unfortunately going to be sorely disappointed; it appears that that game was just a hoax, and no such title is coming. The game had previously been rumored to exist in a Target listing.
Apparently the hoax isn’t just targeted at Bethesda, either; something else that popped up in a Target listing was a Rockstar Game of Thrones game, and while a Red Dead Redemption-style open world title would be more in line with Game of Thrones’s own style, that won’t be happening either.
The announcement originally came after the Game of Thrones season finale aired on HBO. The season, which ended on a horrifying cliffhanger, will undoubtedly leave many fans waiting anxiously to see how the show will finally end with the next mini-season. Unfortunately, with there now being no Game of Thrones licensed games in the pipe, it will be a while before you can have anything to give you that fix.
Considering the studio’s past experience with sword-and-shield combat systems, a Bethesda Game of Thrones game likely would have been pretty fun to play, along with a dream to explore considering the huge amount of world-building that has gone into the book series that Game of Thrones is based on. However, whether the would-be game would allow you to do things like thwart the Red Wedding, assassinate Cersei Lannister, or fight the Night’s King, remain dreams.
If you’re a Game of Thrones fan and would have played a Bethesda Game of Thrones game, you’ll unfortunately have to wait either for the next Song of Ice and Fire book, “The Winds of Winter”, or wait for the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones to see how the show’s version of the story will play out.
