Nvidia Volta Coming Out In 2017 On 12nm FinFET Technology

Rumors claim that Nvidia Volta will be coming out this year and for you who do not know what that is, Nvidia Volta is the next-gen architecture that we will be seeing in 30 series Nvidia GPUs, We say 30 series and not 20 series because it is likely that the 20 series GPUs will be Pascal refresh versions that will feature marginally better performance and most likely more overclocking headroom. Word has it that the Nvidia Volta GPUs will be based on the 12nm FinFET process.

The 12nm FinFET process means that the upcoming GPUs will not only be more powerful but will also be more efficient. Something we all can appreciate. Nvidia Volta GPUs will be coming out for supercomputers this year but I am sure that all of you are more interested in gaming GPUs rather than AI and deep learning. We will be seeing Nvidia Volta gaming GPUs in 2018 and these will be the 30 series Nvidia GPUs. The flagship being the GTX 3080.

The GTX 3080 will feature HBMs memory which is much faster than GDDR5X memory found in the GTX 1080. At the high end, we can also expect to see the GTX 3080 Ti just like the 1080 Ti that we are hoping to see soon. At the mid-range, we will be looking at the GTX 3070. But these GPUs are to come in 2018. In 2017 we expect to see 20 series GPUs that will be the GTX 2080 and the GTX 2070. Speculations hint that these will be slightly better performing GPUs that will be priced lower than current GPUs.

There is not a lot that we know about these GPUs at the moment but there are a couple of rumors going around. We will surely learn more about these upcoming GPUs as time goes by so stay tuned for more updates. What are you looking forward to when it comes to Nvidia Volta?
