Back in Spring 2016, The Coalition held a Gears of War 4 beta. According to the latest stats revealed by the developer, 1.6 million players participated in the versus multiplayer beta.
The beta was available to those who got their hands on Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. The ultimate edition release for Xbox One and Windows 10 and brought it a decent amount of new players to the franchise.

Over 3 million unique players played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and 50% of them were new to Gears of War franchise.
We also came to know that Gears of War franchise has sold 26 million units in total across all platforms it released on.
The latest installment of this franchise will release on October 11 for Windows 10 and Xbox One. This is the very first Gears game (apart from Ultimate Edition) to release for PC.
On a related note, Gears of War 4 review embargo is going away before early access begins, The Coalition confirmed. The Ultimate Edition of the game will give players access to Gears of War 4 starting October 7, four days before the game is out.
Review Embargo being lifted ahead of early access means we will have plenty of time to see what the critics think about the latest installment of Gears saga.
Gears of War 4 will pick up the story from 25 years after the event of the last game. J.D Fenix, the son of Marcus Fenix, is going to be the lead of this years.
