Mass Effect Andromeda will feature multiplayer component much like the Mass Effect 3 but with a slight difference which is it is tied to the game’s singleplayer component. Now Bioware has explained how the multiplayer is tied to the singleplayer in Mass Effect Andromeda.

Speaking with Gamespot, lead designer Ian Frazier talked about the Mass Effect Andromeda multiplayer and explained how it can be tied to the single player. According to the designer, “There’s a tie that can exist between single-player and multiplayer–that’s the Strike Teams”.

He added that fairly early in the singleplayer players will be able to send its militia waking up from the cryopods to do missions, which players themselves can complete if they want to.

These missions are sort of meta-game that exists parallel to the singleplayer. However, there are missions called “Apex Missions”, which are really hard to complete for the Striker Team unless they have been leveled up properly.

However, players can choose to do these missions themselves in multiplayer, they will just have to click the button and the game will be saved and launch them in multiplayer. These missions can be done in solo or “you can match-make with friends, [or] you can do a public game and match-match with strangers”.

He added that these missions will feel appropriate to the context of your story and completing them will not only reward them in multiplayer but also in singleplayer too.

f it says it’s a night mission on a certain map against Kett for this objective, that’s what the mission will actually be,” said Frazier. “When you finish it, you get all the normal multiplayer rewards as if you had picked [multiplayer] from the main menu, but you’ll also get the rewards associated with the mission back in single-player.

He explained that the idea behind this is that players will not only get all the things they like but it will also benefit their singleplayer campaign in Mass Effect Andromeda.

If you’re only into multiplayer, cool. If you’re only into single-player, cool. We tried to set it up in a way that there’s nothing you can’t get within the context of single-player. You don’t have to play multiplayer at all if you don’t want to.

Mass Effect Andromeda is an action-adventure RPG developed by Bioware and is scheduled to launch on March 21, 2017, for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
