To celebrate the festive holiday season Blizzard is offering free Overwatch Winter Loot Boxes for the entire community.

Simply log into the game to unwrap the digital gifts. There are five free Overwatch Winter Loot Boxes in total and are a Christmas gesture from the developer as a token of gratitude for the community’s support.

“It has truly been an eventful and amazing year, and we wanted to take a moment to thank you for being a part of it,” reads the holiday message. “We could not have done this without the tremendous support, passion, and enthusiasm that you’ve shown for Overwatch.”

The items of the Loot Boxes are random and there’s no telling what you’ll get upon unlocking each of them. From the online forums, some players have been lucky enough to receive Legendary skins, the new Yeti skin of Winston, and the Bastion voice-over. That being said, there are also some players who were quite unlucky and got mediocre alternative skins from the package. However, it’s free and so there’s no room for wallowing.

For those wondering, the free Overwatch Winter Loot Boxes are not timed exclusive and are linked to your account. This means that if you’re away for the holidays and are unable to access the game, the free loot will still be there even after the holiday season has concluded. The boxes are permanent additions and can be unlocked any time.

Such free gestures are always appreciated by community of players. There will be many who received Overwatch from their friends or family members as a gift for the holidays. They will too be pleasantly surprised and feel welcomed when they start the game for the first time and see free loot waiting for them inside.
