The Skyrim Special Edition Framerate Is Worse On Playstation 4 Pro
If you were hoping to take advantage of the revamped graphics of the remastered edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you’re in for a rough time if you play it on the Playstation 4 Pro. Apparently, the Skyrim Special Edition framerate on the new console is actually worse than it is on a regular Playstation 4.
The Skyrim Special Edition was first announced at this year’s E3, and offered a revamped Skyrim with better graphics and all of the included DLC. However, with its framerate being worse on the Pro than on the regular Playstation 4, Skyrim fans that wanted to play it on Sony’s newest console might be out of luck.
The reason for the framerate drop is apparently that the game is not entirely suited for 4K, as running it at the native 4K output can result in 2 to 3 frame drops dips, even over the game’s standard version.
The report comes from the tech website Digital Foundry, who is the one that broke the story to the Internet. According to the report, the Skyrim Special Edition framerate issues are at odds with Sony’s requirements for games to be ported onto the Playstation 4 Pro, which says that framerates must be better or equal to the normal game running on the Playstation 4 console.
While there isn’t a Playstation 4 version of Skyrim (it came out in 2011, a year before either the Xbox One or the Playstation 4 was even announced), it should still be able to run on anything equivalent to or better than a Playstation 3.
If you’re one of those players that have wanted to play the game on your Playstation 4 Pro if you already pre ordered it, the Skyrim Special Edition framerate problems may not be worth it, unless Bethesda tries something that causes the problem to be fixed. Otherwise, you can play it on the Xbox One or the PC.
