Call of Duty 2017 May Ditch Futuristic Setting, Could Be Set In the 1950’s

Call of Duty: People's Army

This year’s Call of Duty game isn’t even out yet but we are already hearing whispers about where the next game may take place. This year, we are once again heading into the future, just before Star Wars begins.

However, next year may see a notable thematic change in Call of Duty. Call of Duty 2017 may be set during the Vietnam war between 1955 and 1975.

For those who don’t know, Sledgehammer Games was working on a Vietnam-based Call of Duty game that played like Uncharted. The game was known as “Fog of War.”

However, the concept was scrapped in favor of Advanced Warfare.

Call of Duty 2017 is in development at Sledgehammer Games and we are hearing that they are bringing back Vietnam’s scrapped concept. Some may assume that Battlefield 1 may have something to do with Activision going back to in time, however, such decisions are made very early on.

If they are going back and ditching the future, Battlefield 1’s reception would have definitely encouraged the developers to be more confident with what they are working on.

Back in 2014, Sledgehammer’s Michael Condrey stated that they aren’t ruling out the possibility of reviving their Vietnam based Call of Duty game.

Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty 2017 should be revealed in early 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4 Pro and we may see a Nintendo NX version.

Call of Duty needs to try something different every now and then to keep things fresh. Raven Software has been itching to create its own Call of Duty and we believe the studio deserves a chance while one of the three studios currently working on the game should take a break.

Thanks, IGN
