Gears Of War 4 is the much-anticipated sequel to the Gears Of War franchise which is just two weeks away from launch. However, during its early stages of development, Gears Of War 4 was not a sequel but was almost a prequel, according to The Coalition.
Speaking with Stevivor, The Coalition’s Chuck Osieja revealed that Gears Of War 4 was almost a prequel to the original trilogy of Gears Of War.
We actually sat around, when Rod [Fergusson, formerly of Gears’ original developer, Epic Games] first joined, we sat around for a few days and talked about what we could do. Do you go back and tell – well, there’s a ton of lore in the Gears’ world.
He further revealed that there were a lot of ideas for the prequel but these ideas did not fit with the game’s core mechanics or lore. He also added that the problem with making Gears Of War 4 a prequel was that going back was not the right direction for the series.
