League of Legends Crosses Over 100 Million Active Monthly Players
The popular MOBA League of Legends has now crossed over 100 million active players per month, Riot Games has announced.
Riot Games, the developer behind League of Legends, came into being back in 2006 by Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck. And despite the fact that the developers have not shared these numbers in a very long time, it must have been an epic journey.
League of Legends Crossed 100 Million Monthly Active Players
To give you a better picture of the figure’s extent, 100 million monthly active players mean 1% of the world’s population playing this game right now. Speaking of this, Riot’s Beck told Polygon:
It’s hard to parse, but at the end of the day, those things don’t even feel real. The coolest thing is actually when we’re at the live events and get to meet fans face to face. Only then does it start to feel real. Otherwise, they’re just numbers on a screen all over the world.
In relevant League of Legends news, the game’s World Championship 2016 is scheduled to commence starting Sept. 29, 2016 with Group Stage. A total of 16 teams representing 6 different regions – EU, NA, Taiwan, China, Korea, International Wildcard – will compete in nail-biting games for a month.
One of the biggest highlights of World Championship 2016 is a team defending its World Champion title in the history of League of Legends World Championship. Korea’s SK Telecom T1 is the world’s first defending World Champion – previously all League of Legends World Champions failed to qualify in the consecutive championship.
League of Legends can be played for free on PC.
