It has been a while and ZeniMax Media, too, is on the track of bringing back some iconic franchises to us. Like they brought us Fallout 4 and now DOOM, could we also be getting a new Quake game? Well at least a certain job listing for id Software suggests so.
id Software, being a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media, has published a job opening at the latter’s website for a Senior Physics Programmer to work at id Software Germany.
While all this is perfectly fine, it is the job description that made us double back. While explaining what exactly the Senior Physics Programmer will be doing, the development studio mentions properties he/she will be working on, including DOOM and Quake! Here’s the related excerpt:
id Software is looking for a Senior Physics & Simulation Programmer to work as part of a development team on legendary id game properties like DOOM and QUAKE, developing physics and simulation technology for the game industry’s most advanced engine technology. This position requires engaging in a proactive, high energy development environment on our core technology team.
They do mention Quake in the “about” section of the company on the same job listing, but that is different, the reference above is a strong indication that a new Quake game could be coming our way.
Releases in the series so far have been Quake (1996), Quake Mission Pack No. 1: Scourge of Armagon (1997), Quake Mission Pack No. 2: Dissolution of Eternity (1997), Quake II (1997), Quake II Mission Pack: The Reckoning (1998), Quake II Mission Pack: Ground Zero (1998), Quake III Arena (1999), Quake III: Team Arena (2000), Quake 4 (2005) and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (2007).
As you can see, the series has never been quiet for such a long period ever since the original game came out in 1996, it has been nine years since the last release, and a new Quake game would really excite millions.
